Training

Training

We pass on our knowledge and our commitment to democracy to new leaders and new generations every day.

Democracy North Carolina is dedicated to inspiring and training new civic leaders for our state, especially new leaders from younger generations who will secure and protect pro-democracy reform in the years to come.

We conduct training on several different levels. We provide training for our partners and our local coalitions on such topics as:

  • Basic organizing.
  • Understanding Voter-Owned Elections.
  • Formulating GOTV strategy.
  • Volunteer management.
  • Phone banking and other areas of civic engagement.

We also train young organizers through Democracy Summer and other activities.

In addition, the training of local leaders is a key goal of our organizing strategy. As we work with local coalition members, we are careful to guide, teach and inspire rather than simply telling people what to do. Our goal is to recruit and train new leaders who have the capacity, skills and drive to strengthen our state’s democracy – and who, in turn, can inspire and teach others.

What’s Ahead

We intend to significantly increase the training opportunities we offer in our coalition communities and through our statewide Democracy Advocate program. Specifically, we will be sponsoring pilot trainings on how to run for office, how government works, advocacy communications and other hands-on topics.

We also intend to expand our Democracy Summer program and explore training models with local schools, our partner organizations and youth-service agencies in order to increase civic awareness among high school students and other youth groups.
