We have always controlled our overhead so that more of our budget can go to the direct funding of vital programs and other frontline activities that truly make a difference in North Carolina. This means that whether your contribution is large or small (and we welcome both) — your donation will be put to the best possible use. You may make a general contribution to our organization or earmark it for a special program as described below.

When you give to Democracy NC, your money supports stronger ethics for government officials. For example, although some argued it was traditional for politicians to accept gifts from donors and lobbyists, we felt this practice hobbled attempts to raise the ethics bar for elected officials in NC. Our research into lobbyist spending and other practices highlighted the problem and gave reformers like our partner, The North Carolina Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform, quantitative data they could use to successfully push for changes in the law that would establish higher standards of behavior for both elected officials and lobbyists. We are now using this and other original data to advocate for stronger ethical standards for board appointees and local governments. You can help us make these reforms possible by supporting our Research or Advocacy programs.
