Democracy North Carolina depends on donations from individual supporters for a significant part of our budget. In addition, many of our advocacy and civic engagement accomplishments would not have been possible without the help of our individual volunteers (our Democracy Advocates). Regardless of whether you are giving your time or making a financial contribution, please know that we very much appreciate your support.

Financial Contributions

Because financial contributions to Democracy North Carolina are tax-deductible, many of our donors remember us at year-end as part of their annual tax planning. Others give us a small monthly amount year-round, such as $15 or $20, automatically charged to their credit cards. All contributions to Democracy NC are appreciated.

We Put Your Money to Good Use

When you invest in Democracy North Carolina, your money is put to good use. Here are some examples of popular donation levels and what we can do with them:

$ 2,300 sponsors a Democracy Summer student intern.
$ 1,000 pays for original research into money in politics, voter participation and good government.
$ 500 supports travel for a professional organizer and materials for multiple regional meetings.
$ 100 supports electronic outreach to Advocates.
$ 50 helps us print and distribute fact sheets on voter rights.

Support the Program of Your Choice

You can make a general donation to Democracy NC or you can earmark a donation to benefit a specific activity and help us:

Produce groundbreaking research reports.
Organize pro-democracy advocates across North Carolina.
Increase voter turn-out by registering voters and publicizing early voting options.
Provide training for voter registration and GOTV activities.
Involve young people in electoral reform and create new leaders for our state through our Democracy Summer training program.
Promote Voter-Owned Elections and other reforms as a way to put voters, not wealthy special interests, at the center of elections.

Carringtons

Paul and Bessie Carrington are long-time supporters of Democracy NC. Not only do they send us a financial gift each year, they regularly respond when we send out legislative action requests. Like many of our Advocates, they also serve as liaisons to other organizations with interests overlapping ours. For example, both Carringtons are League of Women Voters members. We are grateful to the Carringtons and all the other supporters in the Democracy NC family for making our work possible.

Are you a regular campaign donor? Some of our supporters are so determined to change the big money campaign finance system that they take part of the money they would normally give to candidates each year and donate it to Democracy NC instead. They then send their candidates a notice of their contribution to us, with a note pointing out how their action underscores their determination to help change the campaign financing system.
