FairJudges.net and "527 Committees"

In late October, a new 527 committee called FairJudges.net began spending over $200,000 for a TV ad about candidates for the N.C. Supreme Court.  We have repeatedly filed complaints about groups that try to use legal loopholes to gain an advantage in elections but that cross the line into possible illegal activity (e.g., the Art Pope/Republican committee in the 2006 primary and the hog industry's attack ads in the 1998 election). In this case, it appears that the N.C. Democratic Party could be illegally coordinating with FairJudges.net, which would have important consequences. The State Board of Elections has launched an investigation to find out more.
