Democracy North Carolina's mission is to make real the promise of "one person, one vote" -- the bedrock principle of equal rights and self-determination. The pressure to raise big money in campaigns squeezes out many good candidates, alienates voters, and elevates the importance of wealthy special interests. We support policies that (a) increase the power and participation of voters, such as through Same-Day Registration and Voting, and (b) decrease the influence of big money, such as through ethics/lobby reform and a public financing alternative for candidates.
