Voters and Voting Rights

The ballot is the great equalizer in our democracy. Your vote counts as much as anyone else's; it is your voice and an instrument of great power.
But it has to be exercised!

"By the power of the vote," said Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "we will transform" society. We are obviously not using that power effectively in North Carolina -- more than half of the adult citizens in this state do not vote in the typical election.

Much can be done to make voting more accessible and meaningful for young people and others. Here are some of the areas of concern for Democracy North Carolina:

Same-Day Registration

Felon Re-Enfranchisement

Instant Runoff Voting

Help America Vote Act

Voter's Bill of Rights

Research: Young Voters in North Carolina

Research: Voter Registration/Turnout Data from State Board of Elections
