The integrity of fair elections
and of open, honest policy debates is damaged when money
dominates the process. Your chance to become a public servant
or have your issues resolved by public officials should
not be affected by your access to wealth.
The
year-round pressure of campaign fund-raising undermines
people's faith in democracy. The money chase pushes out
good candidates, turns off voters, and makes small donors
feel irrelevant. We need a new source of "clean"
money that rewards politicians who demonstrate their accountability
to voters -- a system of "Voter-Owned Elections."
And we need other reforms that replace the often secret
influence of wealthy special interests with tools that empower
citizens in politics.
